The starting team of Skaling consists of Caspar von Schönfels and Christoph Schaper, who are based in Hamburg, and the Berlin lawyers Dr. Christian Schultze, Tino Ludden and Constantin von Schöning. In October, Dr. Michael Lampert becomes the sixth partner of the new firm.

According to Skaling, a decisive factor for the formation of the new firm was the perception of an increasing need for top-level advice on partner level outside the expensive and rigid structures of large law firms. Another factor was the realisation that many colleagues would like to continue working at a high level, but not in a large unit.
